Ottawa-based Thermal Energy International says it has received an order worth approximately $500,000 from a new hospital customer.
The clean-tech firm, which makes steam traps that allow users to capture energy from boilers and steam systems, says its system will save the hospital $282,000 a year in fuel and maintenance costs as well as reduce its carbon emissions by 1,085 tonnes per year.
“This is our third significant hospital order in the last eight weeks for a combined total of more than $2.4 million,” Thermal Energy CEO William Crossland said in a statement. “Hospitals consume vast amounts of energy … [By] implementing our energy efficiency solutions, additional resources can be reallocated for core medical services including staff and equipment, while also contributing to a healthier environment through reduced emissions.”

Thermal Energy has not yet published its full-year financial figures for its 2016 fiscal year, which ended on May 31.
However, the company previously said it booked revenues of $8.28 million in the first nine months of the year, exceeded its full-year 2015 sales of $6.8 million.
