Ottawa’s latest pro baseball team is using an iconic piece of the city’s skyline as a key part of its logo design.
The Ottawa Champions, who will begin play in the Can-Am League next year, unveiled the design at Ottawa Stadium on Thursday.
The logo has a red, white and blue colour scheme, but gets much more Canadian after that, with a maple leaf and the Peace Tower incorporated in the design.

“The Ottawa Champions aspire to reflect our community and our new logo represents our passion for playing the game of baseball right here in the nation’s capital,” said Champions president David Gourlay in a statement.
Mr. Gourlay also announced the launch of a new website with ticket information for the 2015 season. He also said the team will bid for the Can-Am all-star game in 2017, the year Canada celebrates its 150th birthday.
Mayor Jim Watson and Orleans Coun. Bob Monette joined Mr. Gourlay at the stadium for the unveiling.
This is the second go-around for an Ottawa franchise in the Can-Am league. The Ottawa Rapidz competed in 2008, but didn’t come back for a second season.
