Construction activity slowed dramatically last month with the lowest number and value of permits issued in September in at least three years, according to municipal records.
The City of Ottawa issued 605 permits last month, down 27 per cent year-over-year. Permit values added up to $98.8 million, which was was down 28 per cent compared to the same period last year.
It was the sixth-lowest value month in three years – including the winter months – according to data compiled by OBJ.

The top permit last month was valued at $10.6 million for the University of Ottawa to construct the foundation and structure of the five-storey Center for Advanced Photonics and Environmental Analysis Facility at 727 King Edward Ave.
Right behind it was a $9.5 million permit for PCL Constructors Canada Inc. to build the foundation of the new five-level parking structure at Bayshore Shopping Centre.
After that, values dropped significantly with the third highest permit at $4.9 million to construct the superstructure of the one-storey South Nepean Catholic Elementary School on Cambrian Road.
Minto Communities Inc. received dozens of permits, valued between $1.2 million and $1.6 million each, to build a total of 40 three-storey stacked rowhouses on Bluestone Private in Orleans.
