Shopify Inc. (TSX:SHOP) (NYSE:SHOP) isn’t slowing down as it approaches the holidays, announcing today that it has made its third acquisition of the year in the form of app studio Tiny Hearts.
Six members of the seven-year-old startup will join Shopify’s Toronto offices, and the e-commerce firm will acquire its portfolio of apps as well as its online store, Busy Building Things.
Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Tiny Hearts CEO Robleh Jama made the announcement today in a blog post, writing that this was a “happy ending” for the company that would allow team members to focus on building products they enjoy rather than continue to milk revenue from its client services.
Tiny Hearts’ apps, including Wake Alarm and Quick Fit, have been downloaded more than six million times and have reached the second spot on the App Store’s top charts. The company hit a roadblock recently after closing its crowdfunded iOS keyboard app.
In an email, Shopify’s director of product Satish Kanwar wrote: “Tiny Hearts has a track record of shipping apps that people love and we’re excited to have them join our team. The team is not only bringing strong mobile talent to Shopify, but also their leadership and experience. They will help us unlock mobile as the best platform for growing Shopify.”
In the spring, Shopify acquired chatbot-startup Kit CRM, and announced two months ago that it was also acquiring Waterloo-based Boltmade to accelerate its Shopify Plus offerings.
