Earlier this week, more than 100 community leaders gathered at Sussex and Co. to surprise and celebrate Solange Tuyishime, a global humanitarian and inspiring force in Ottawa. A Miss Universe Canada contender, Tuyishime continues to redefine beauty, leadership and purpose. For almost 20 years she has used the pageant stage not for crowns alone, but as a platform to amplify her humanitarian mission — raising more than $3.4 million for UNICEF Canada and leading her non-profit, Elevate International.
This year, with support from Ottawa Mayor Mark Sutcliffe, she organized the first Ottawa Day, bringing thousands together in a celebration of culture and unity. Whether through philanthropy, advocacy or competition, Tuyishime embodies resilience and grace. She inspires young women and challenges long-held notions of who belongs in pageantry, showing that true leadership is measured by impact and by the way she uplifts those around her. Her journey reminds us all that true beauty is purpose in action.
