The federal and provincial governments are giving Ottawa’s Collège La Cité nearly $13 million to help the francophone post-secondary institution upgrade its classroom infrastructure and technology.
The federal government said Wednesday it’s pumping $10.3 million into the east-end college over the next three years to help La Cité “transform its technology infrastructure” and implement a new digital strategy.
The Ontario government is chipping in a further $2 million over three years to fund the project, which will also see four spaces on the campus converted into collaborative classrooms.

The new classrooms will feature “state-of-the-art technology and ergonomic furniture,” according to a news release. La Cité is contributing $300,000 toward their construction.
In addition, the college says it plans to use some of the new funding to launch three online certification programs in digital citizenship in partnership with the Université de l’Ontario français and Groupe Média TFO.
“Since its creation in 1990, La Cité has played an important role in the development and vitality of francophone communities in Ontario and elsewhere in the country,” Lise Bourgeois, the college’s president, said in a statement.
“This funding will be used to transform our technology infrastructure, which is essential to increasing our digital capacity and supporting a new pedagogical approach for the educational transformation of the college’s 140 programs of study.”
With about 5,000 full-time students, La Cité is the province’s largest French-language college.
In addition to its main location on Aviation Parkway, the college also operates satellite campuses in Orléans, west Ottawa, Toronto and Hawkesbury.
