A U.K.-based company that makes tools and equipment used in the manufacture of food and pharmaceuticals is doubling the size of its Ottawa branch.
Detectamet said this week it is expanding its Canadian sales office and warehouse on Stevenage Drive from 2,500 to 5,000 square feet due to “great demand” for its products. The Ottawa location opened last April.
“We hope this expansion will allow Detectamet to carry higher levels of stock, ensuring that we can continue to provide an efficient on-demand service to our growing customer base,” sales manager Leo Wild said in a news release.

Whether you’re looking to get away for the day or a long weekend, Carleton Place is a friendly town that offers plenty of options for anyone.
Mini home? Tiny house? Here’s what you need to know before investing
Building a backyard coach house is easier thanks to Bill 23, and Ottawa General Contractors are helping home owners make it happen.
Founded in 2003, Detectamet makes equipment and tools such as gloves, scissors, knives and protective gear used by employees in food, beverage and pharmaceutical plants. Its products are made of materials that can be easily recognized by metal detectors or X-ray machines to help reduce the risk of contamination during the manufacturing process.
“Manufacturers are taking food contamination more and more seriously and our products help retailers to avoid expensive product recalls by being metal and X-Ray detectable,” the company said in a statement.
