The Ottawa International Airport’s main runway is closed for the summer as part of two multimillion-dollar reconstruction projects on the tarmac.
A section of taxiway bravo, which connects the airport’s main west-facing runway to the terminal, is undergoing a $6 million reconstruction. Tomlinson Group will lead the project, which includes new lighting, the installation of storm sewers and new line painting.
A $3 million upgrade to the runway’s existing lighting system will spread over the next two years and involves a variety of contractors. Construction will increase the visibility and number of guidance lights on the west-facing runway, as has already been done for the north and east-facing runways. A similar project is planned for the south-facing runway in 2018.

The airport’s main runway will be closed for reconstruction in July and August, as well as an additional week in September and October. Flight patterns and overheard noise and traffic for communities surrounding the airport will be affected accordingly.
