On June 12, 2023, the Ottawa Board of Trade hosted its 166th Annual General Meeting in downtown Ottawa. Annually, this meeting is a chance for members, business and community leaders to gather, reflect on the past year and the year ahead as well as elect a new board of directors. It is also a great opportunity to thank the OBOT members who ensure that Ottawa has a strong voice of business and is well positioned to advocate for economic growth in our region. This mandate is especially important as we face times of change and challenge.
Even though the organization has a long history of business success and community impact, the recent history boasts a coming together of several local chambers, left separate when the city amalgamated with the surrounding municipalities in 2001, to form the new Ottawa Board of Trade. The impetus for the consolidation in 2018 was to strengthen the voice of local businesses. This would ensure we maintained a competitive business environment in Ottawa as we faced unprecedented times of change in a global economy. The timing was fortuitous as soon after we were able to effectively advocate for our community during the pandemic.
