Kanata’s Hazeldean Mall is making way for a Target Corp. store to open in August 2013, but first will come millions of dollars worth of renovations to prepare for the major American retailer.
A construction permit issued by the city on Aug. 29 states that it will cost $4.6 million to fit up the space within the one-storey retail building on Eagleson Road.
It will take the place of the Zellers store that will close next February.

“It’s going to bring a renewed interest,” she said.
The Hazeldean Mall location is one of four to be opened in the Ottawa region next year, along with Billings Bridge Plaza, Place D’Orleans and Meadowlands Shopping Centre, according to a company release in July.
Two additional locations will open in 2014 at Bayshore Shopping Centre and RioCan St. Laurent.
Each site will be closed for a period of six to nine months for extensive renovations, with more than $10 million spent on each new location and between 150 to 200 people hired in each store.
Target, a 109-year old American retailer that was part of Dayton-Hudson Corp. before changing its name in 2000, is one of the biggest U.S. department store chains with revenues of more than US$67 billion in its last fiscal year.
The company signed a deal earlier this year to take over up to 220 Zellers locations from the Hudson’s Bay Co., and recently set up Canadian headquarters in Mississauga, Ont.
