An Ottawa company that connects vehicles to users’ home devices will soon see its tech on the dashboards of Subaru cars.
Evolved Vehicle Environments announced Tuesday that automaker Subaru will integrate EVEConnect software into its Starlink in-vehicle technology.
EVE’s platform allows drivers to control hundreds of smart home devices such as lights, thermostats and security systems from the car’s dashboard. It also has automation options that can, for example, unlock doors or set temperatures the moment a user steps out of their car after arriving home.

“Connected car and smart home technologies are something we have talked about for a long time. EVEConnect is the premiere app to integrate these two technologies,” said Anthony Landamia, Subaru of America’s manager of infotainment technologies, in a statement.
The platform will be available via Subaru’s app catalog with monthly or yearly subscriptions.
EVE chief executive Jason Taylor called the Subaru deal a “major win” for the local startup, which is currently a part of Invest Ottawa’s accelerator program.
The EVE-Subaru partnership follows a similar connected car announcement last month between Daimler and Ottawa-based Solace. The local firm’s tech will power messaging systems for the German automaker’s “Mercedes me” app and associated services.
