Ottawa-based Rianta Solutions announced Monday it is receiving up to $439,900 in federal funding through the National Research Council’s Industrial Research Assistance Program.
Rianta produces low-energy data centre technology for faster and more efficient Internet communications. It was created in 2012 and started with six staff working out of a co-founder’s basement.
Today the company’s March Road office is home to 40 full-time staff. CEO Richard Deboer said Monday’s announcement will help the team grow faster.

“We are currently adding five employees per month with the goal of doubling in size by the end of 2016 to meet the needs of our global customer base,” Mr. Deboer said in a statement, adding the funding will also help the company get its product to market faster.
The NRC’s IRAP program is meant to help small and medium-sized businesses develop and commercialize their technologies.
“The funding we are announcing for Rianta Solutions Inc. will develop next-generation data centre networks and support fast and reliable Internet solutions for individuals and businesses in our communities and worldwide,” Kanata-Carleton MP Karen McCrimmon said in a statement.
