An Ottawa firm’s tech will underpin the connected car communications systems for one of the world’s biggest producers of premium vehicles.
Solace Systems announced Wednesday that German automotive company Daimler AG has selected the Kanata-based firm’s technology to power its “Mercedes me” app and associated services by streaming data between the vehicles and back-end applications.
The app connects its cars to users’ smartphones, other vehicles and additional information services. It even lets owners automatically park their cars – even while they’re standing outside the vehicle – with a tap on the screen and get live updates on traffic as they’re driving.

Daimler, known for its luxury cars, said in a release that it chose Solace because of the “massive scale” of routing demands when it comes to relaying information between a vast number of vehicles.
Solace CEO Les Rechan didn’t hold back in underlining the importance of the deal to the firm.
“The ability to partner with one of the world’s best companies as they revolutionize something as far-reaching as what it means to drive a car is truly a watershed moment in the growth of our company,” he said in a statement.
Daimler vehicles outfitted with Solace tech will begin hitting the roads in the coming months.
