A newly formed Ottawa-based medical cannabis company says it’s purchased the assets of another local pot firm as it builds out an R&D operation and explores genetic engineering methods to produce pharmaceutical-grade marijuana.
Fairway Green Cannabis was launched earlier this month and is headed by Michael Inskip, a former high-tech sales and marketing executive who later led a capital pool company, Thoroughbred Capital. Fairway Green Cannabis says it plans to cultivate cannabis for medical and pharmaceutical applications as well as invest heavily in R&D, including “alternative growing strategies,” engineered enzymes and tailored genetics.
The company’s leadership team also includes local intellectual property lawyer Gordon Freedman.

This week, Fairway Green Cannabis said it was acquiring the assets of NordikLeaf, a local cannabis company led by Ottawa entrepreneur James MacKenzie. NordikLeaf secured a 25-acre property outside Perth in 2019 that it intended to convert to cannabis cultivation.
Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Fairway Green Cannabis says it’s in the process of obtaining a cannabis production licence from Health Canada.
