Fresh off a deal that will see made-in-Ottawa television programs broadcast in Singapore, Gusto Worldwide Media says it’s signed a new licensing agreement that will stream its content in the United States.
The Ottawa firm’s latest contract win is with California-based Pluto TV. Unlike subscription-based competitors such as Netflix and Hulu, Pluto TV is a free streaming service that generates revenue through advertising.
The deal covers 75 hours of original Gusto content and includes eight original series as well as four specials. Financial terms were not disclosed.

“Much of this content has never been seen in the United States,” said Gusto president and CEO Chris Knight in a statement. “We’re very excited to bring even more of our programming to Americans and look forward to a lasting relationship with Pluto TV.”
Gusto, which specializes in culinary programming, has a licensing agreement with Bell for the Canadian distribution of its content. Knight says the growing prevalence of over-the-top internet technology – reducing the reliance on expensive satellite services to broadcast programming – is increasing the global expansion opportunities for the Ottawa firm.
