After retooling its production facilities to make personal protective equipment for the health-care market and fulfilling its first order, an Ottawa printing company says it’s doubling its production to meet the immediate demand.

Ottawa Print Services saw its business, especially custom products for festivals, trade shows and restaurants, “hit hard” at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. It initially switched to printing COVID-19 safety posters, banners, safe distance floor decals and signage for businesses that remained open before adding portable sneeze and cough guard barriers for banks, takeout counters and reception areas.

The company, which is rebranding itself as SINIX PPE during the pandemic, then began to produce disposable face shields for health-care workers with the help of another local firm, OttawaScene Canada Group.

The company says its first shipment of 7,500 units was scheduled to be delivered to a local hospital Monday afternoon and plans to double its output to 15,000 units per week.

“The past few weeks have been a blur,” said CEO Hamed Zadeh – a past Forty Under 40 and Ottawa Immigrant Entrepreneur Award recipient – in a statement. “The demand has been non-stop.”
