Eastern Ontario homeowners, small businesses and other organizations affected by the recent widespread flooding will be eligible for up to $250,000 in disaster relief assistance, the province announced Tuesday.
The funds will be paid out under the Disaster Recovery Assistance for Ontarians program. The fund covers property damage resulting from unexpected natural disasters such as floods or tornadoes.
Eligible recipients can be reimbursed for repair and cleanup expenses as well as the costs of evacuating from their property. Those who qualify for the program include homeowners, residential tenants, small business owners, farm operators and not-for-profit organizations.

The province said the program will reimburse up to 90 per cent of eligible costs of emergency expenses, household appliances and furniture to a maximum of $250,000 per applicant. Payouts are subject to a $500 deductible that may be waived for low-income recipients, and insurance payments will be deducted from eligible costs.
