An Ottawa tech startup is one of a select group of Canadian companies getting a chance to give their businesses a kick start in a Canadian government accelerator based in New York City.
Established in January of this year, Nectar Desk provides cloud-based phone systems for business with analytic and reporting capabilities. It announced this week that it is in the Canadian Technology Accelerators (CTA) program run by the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada.
Nectar Desk’s cloud solution allows small- and medium-sized companies to regulate their phone communications through one interface. Enrolment in the CTA’s digital tech accelerator is meant to allow startups access to key resources as they grow their businesses. Nectar Desk says it is hoping to establish an international presence and find qualified contacts and partners to strengthen their investor network.

“We are thrilled to take part in this opportunity. We believe we have a solid product offering and the meetings last week have validated that for us with great feedback from our mentors. This program will help us make connections and build our strategy to take Nectar Desk to the next level,” CEO Andriy Azarov said in a statement.
The accelerator was established in 2012 as New York was emerging as a leading market for internet-based technology entrepreneurs. Since then, it has helped accelerate the growth of high potential companies through client acquisition, mentoring and introduction to business contacts.
The CTA also runs a cleantech accelerator based in New York and Silicon Valley and a health IT accelerator headquartered in Philadelphia.
The latest CTA digital cohort began March 7th and will continue until June 30th.
