The James Street Pub will close its doors this coming fall.
The prominent Centretown watering hole announced on its Facebook page Thursday that it would be closing down after one final summer to make way for a forthcoming development on the site.
The popular pub said the closure “did not come as a surprise” as construction talk had been circulating for the past nine years. The post did not provide specific details about what kind of development will replace the pub, but did suggest that the new building could feature a James Street Pub at the ground floor.

The Centretown fixture, at the intersection of James and Bank streets, opened more than 30 years ago as the James Street Feed Co. It changed its name in 2005 and was acquired by Ottawa’s Heart & Crown Irish Pubs chain in 2007.
Thursday’s Facebook post prompted an outpouring of support and fond farewells from the pub’s patrons, with many reminiscing about good times spent on the James Street’s sizeable patio. The post made mention of plans to throw “one last bash” before last call.
