Canadian Tire’s chief technology officer, Eugene Roman, will be a keynote speaker at GTEC, the government tech event announced Wednesday.
GTEC, to be held at the Ottawa Convention Centre in late October, will focus this year on the challenges and opportunities in government IT.
Mr. Roman’s presentation on Oct. 29 will address how a cyber-powered government can better serve Canadians. He’ll talk about traditional IT being rapidly replaced by new technology tools that have the potential to deliver enriched government services, but also to create unpredictable risk. He will also discuss how IT experts can manage these new tools.

GTEC will present more than 50 sessions over the four-day conference.
“IT’s shift to working hand-in-hand with business is enabling government to respond more effectively to citizens’ growing expectations around digital service,” GTEC executive director Michele Lajeunesse said in a statement. “GTEC showcases this service excellence within the public sector while connecting attendees with the top ICT vendors who help the Canadian government remain competitive among the global technology marketplace.”
GTEC will include a two-day expo showcasing technology and services to advance the information and communications technology business in government, as well as a gala awards recognizing excellence in public service information technology and information management in Canada.
