Giatec Scientific leads Ottawa firms on Globe and Mail list of top-growing companies

The accolades just keep pouring in for an Ottawa-based concrete sensor developer that is the region’s highest-ranked firm in the Globe and Mail’s inaugural list of Canada’s top-growing companies.

Giatec Scientific – which helps contractors measure the quality of concrete during construction and over the lifespan of a building by embedding sensors in concrete as it is poured – placed 74th on the newspaper’s top 400 list of the country’s fastest-growing firms with three-year revenue growth of 705 per cent.

The recognition from the Globe and Mail’s Report on Business continues a September to remember for Giatec, which also landed on Canadian Business magazine’s Growth 500 list of fastest-growing companies earlier this month. Co-founder Pouria Ghods stopped by Techopia Live last week to talk about what’s being the company’s rapid growth.

Giatec was one of 16 firms in the National Capital Region to make the ROB’s list. Coming in at No. 2 in the local rankings was e-commerce powerhouse Shopify, which posted three-year growth of 423 per cent. It was one of just three companies with annual revenues of more than $1 billion to crack the top 400 in the national rankings.

Not surprisingly, tech firms dominated the contingent of locally based firms. But the list of pace-setters from the region also included companies such as NewFound Recruiting, which came in at No. 131 with three-year growth of 295 per cent, Gatineau-based Regional Fence (No. 154, 235 per cent) and D-Squared Construction, which ranked 302nd (90 per cent).
