A federal minister visited the Outaouais Thursday to officially hand out nearly $1.3 million in repayable grants to five Gatineau firms.
The recipients include a distillery, a tech startup and a welder as well as a machining and fabrication shop.
“We are taking concrete action to support Quebec and are working with local businesses to create jobs for Quebecers and relaunch our economy,” Mélanie Joly, the minister of economic development and official languages, said in a statement.

The companies that received loans are:
- Artist in Residence Distillerie, which received $241,470 to purchase a new canning system and other equipment;
- Foko, which received $300,000 to implement a new international marketing plan;
- Group WYM, which received $300,000 to acquire equipment to manufacture hygiene products;
- Métanox, which received $196,978 to acquire manufacturing equipment, software and office furniture; and
- Marc Marine Welding, which received $225,000 to acquire automated equipment.
Additionally, ID Gatineau received a $290,000 non-repayable grant for a project to support other businesses and organizations negatively affected by COVID-19.
