A record-breaking crowd of nearly 1,100 business and community leaders packed the Roger’s Centre on Dec. 5 for a historic Mayor’s Breakfast, eager to hear from special guest Prime Minister Mark Carney. Organized by the Ottawa Business Journal and the Ottawa Board of Trade, the event set a new attendance high-water mark in the series’ 28-year history.

The formal part of the event included speeches and a fireside chat with Mayor Mark Sutcliffe and the prime minister, during which they discussed a new $400-million joint investment to accelerate housing construction in Ottawa.
Beyond housing, the leaders unveiled a $1.2-million pilot project to address the local drug crisis. On the economic front, the prime minister highlighted plans to leverage Ottawa’s 300-plus defence companies as part of a $9-billion reinvestment in the Canadian Armed Forces.
