Feds looking for company to replace roof at DND’s Carling Avenue building

The federal government is planning to replace part of the roof at the former Nortel building on Carling Avenue.

Tendering documents show the governments estimate the repairs will cost up to $5 million.

The feds issued a tender notice for the work at 3500 Carling Ave. earlier this week, with a closing date of Oct. 1. According to the notice, the estimated cost of the project will be between $1 million and $5 million.

The federal government bought Nortel’s former Carling campus three years ago for $208 million, with the intent of consolidating the Department of National Defence’s more than 40 offices in the National Capital Region into one area on the west-end property.

That was expected to cost about $630 million, with media reports saying DND hoped to have details of the plan ready by the fall of 2012.

However as of February the federal government still had not approved any plans.

In 2010, government officials said they expected the renovations and moves at the 370-acre campus on Carling Avenue at Moodie Drive to take five to seven years.
