An Ottawa engineering firm with a history stretching back nearly 70 years has been acquired by a Quebec company.

Founded in 1956, Goodkey, Weedmark & Associates specializes in mechanical and electrical engineering. The employee-owned company, which has a head count of about 100 people, has worked on projects across the National Capital Region and the Ottawa Valley.

Managing principal Frank Bann says the deal will allow the Ottawa firm to tap into new markets.

“This transaction represents a major milestone in our company’s history, as it will help us expand our reach from local to national,” Bann said in a statement.

“Our team is delighted to join this highly reputed Canadian firm whose client approach and genuine caring for its people, communities and clients closely reflect our own values.”

Englobe has more than 3,000 employees across Canada. The company was acquired by professional services firm Colliers earlier this year.

“We’re excited to collaborate with GWAL to expand our joint market presence in the National Capital Region and beyond, and to offer additional professional growth and collaboration opportunities for our newly combined team,” Englobe president Mike Cormier said in a statement.
