Days after city councillors approved plans to construct Ottawa’s tallest condo tower in Little Italy, another homebuilder is proposing an 18-storey building a few blocks away.
Domicile Developments’ proposed 127-unit mixed-use building on Rochester Street, between Norman and Pamilla streets, would be less than half the size of Claridge’s 45-storey tower at the corner of Preston Street and Carling Avenue. However, it would dominate the predominantly low-rise buildings in the immediate surrounding area.
In a zoning bylaw amended filed with the city, Domicile proposes a 635-square-foot “pedestrian plaza” at the corner of Rochester and Pamilla streets that leads to the entrance of a two-storey podium at the base of the tower. The plans call for three levels of underground parking with 108 stalls. However, Domicile says the existing surface and on-street parking in the neighbourhood means there’s no need for dedicated visitor parking spaces on the site.
