Ottawa’s construction sector saw its worst April in at least four years, according to municipal records.
The value of local construction permits was down $39.3 million year-over-year in April.
The city issued 629 permits with a combined value of $115 million, down from 666 permits valued at $154.3 million a year earlier.

The two most valuable contracts included the superstructure of The Ravines Seniors’ Suites and Retirement Residence, an eight-storey complex being built by Ashcroft Homes for $17.8 million, and the superstructure of One3One, an eight-storey condo building by Domicile Construction for $11.4 million.
The list also includes 16 permits issued to Minto Communities Inc. to build a series of three-storey stacked rowhouses on Chapman Mills Drive. Each permit is valued at $1.45 million but they are not listed below due to space considerations.
