Known as Keith Harris Stadium since 1998, the home of Carleton Ravens football, soccer and rugby will now be called MNP Park.
The university said it will erect a plaque and an entrance sign to honour Mr. Harris, who served as Carleton’s athletic director for 35 years.
While financial terms weren’t disclosed, Carleton said the money will help the long-term financial viability of the team.
Carleton lost its football team in 1998, due largely to a lack of funding. The school’s football alumni group, The Old Crow Society, worked to revive it, boosted by a $2.5-million donation from Ottawa entrepreneur and OSEG partner John Ruddy in 2008.
The team returned to action in 2013, mostly funded by the Old Crows Football Inc., which receives financial support through donations, sponsorship proceeds, gate receipts and ongoing fundraising activities.
“We are very pleased to be associated and supportive of Carleton University,” MNP senior vice-president of marketing Randy Mowat said in a statement. “MNP is relatively new to Ottawa and we wanted to get involved in the community in a supportive way. Our sponsorship of the athletic stadium will ensure programs remain strong at Carleton.”
