Known around the world for its wastewater management solutions, Ottawa cleantech firm BluMetric will put its ingenuity to the test during a Dragons’ Den-style pitchfest next week.
BluMetric is one of eight Ontario companies that have been chosen to showcase their technology in the Water Dragons event on Monday. The Future Water Association, a U.K.-based trade organization, is hosting the virtual pitchfest that gives cleantech firms a chance to demonstrate their products to British water and wastewater utilities and other potential customers.
The event is held annually on World Water Day, March 22. This year marks the first time the showcase has focused on international companies.

‘Prenup of business law’: Reasonable expectations in shareholder disputes
The scenario: You’re a 60 per cent shareholder. Your business partner holds the other 40 per cent. And you’ve just found a third party who wants to buy you out.
BluMetric will be demonstrating three of its solutions:
- The shipboard reverse osmosis desalinator, a compact water purification system used on ships in the Royal Canadian Navy;
- The reverse osmosis water purification units, which produce drinking water from nearly any water source. The technology is used during military operations or humanitarian and disaster relief missions led by the Canadian Department of National Defence.
- The portable water purification system, which is light enough to be lifted by two people and can produce safe water every day for up to 50 people.
“We’re proud to have been selected for this prestigious event,” BluMetric CEO Scott MacFabe said in a statement.
“Our suite of innovative clean water solutions have been deployed around the globe, saving our clients’ money and providing mission-ready water in a world of uncertainty. We look forward to presenting that message on World Water Day.
