Smartphone maker BlackBerry (TSX:BB) is laying off around 90 employees in Ottawa, the company said Tuesday.

The employees “were part of BlackBerry’s product development and wireless technology teams,” the company said in an e-mailed statement.

The layoffs are part of part the company’s previously announced plan to return to profitability by reducing its staff by 40 per cent before May.
The news comes one day after the company announced it would be laying off 120 employees in Waterloo, Ont.
Blackberry shares were up three cents to $10.16 by early afternoon on Tuesday.
