An eastern Ontario manufacturer plans to boost its headcount by 10 per cent and install new production technology with the help of $625,000 in federal funding.
Muskoka Cabinet Co. says the loan from the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario will go toward a high-tech panel finishing line that will allow the firm to increase production of residential cabinets by 50 per cent.
The firm is investing an additional $1.78 million in the new equipment, which it says is the first of its kind in Canada.

Muskoka currently employs a total of about 70 people at its head office and manufacturing plant in Alfred, 70 kilometres east of Ottawa, and a marketing office in the capital. The company says it expects to hire seven new employees as demand for its products continues to grow.
“Funding like this from FedDev Ontario has allowed Muskoka to push the limits of technology otherwise unafforded by companies our size,” CEO Luke Elias said, adding the project will allow employees to “learn the latest in technology” and move into new roles as traditional jobs that require manual labour are automated.
The company expects the new technology to be up and running by the end of 2022.
