Students and researchers at the University of Ottawa will now have access to tools and expertise on the cybersecurity sector from IBM Canada.
Announced earlier this week, the partnership will see the local post-secondary institution collaborate with the global enterprise on research and skills development in cybersecurity and cyber safety.
The hub will match IBM’s expertise in data analytics and deep learning with uOttawa’s researchers and students to develop new technologies that underpin cybersecurity platforms. Beyond engineering, the hub will also explore topics including cybersecurity ethics and law.

Steven Astorino, vice-president and Canadian lab director with IBM, pitched the hub as an important resource for Canada’s cyber defence.
“This cybersecurity hub will create a nucleus of both skilled and reskilled government and industry professionals essential for the digital safety and security of Canadians,” he said in a statement.
