An Alberta landscaping firm that merged with an Ottawa outdoor property maintenance company last year is bringing a local street-sweeping enterprise under its umbrella in a bid to expand its footprint in Eastern Canada.
Calgary-based Urban Life Solutions said this week it’s acquired Richard’s Sweeping. The local firm will merge with the P. Munro Group, a maintenance company headquartered in Ottawa that combined its operations with Urban Life Solutions in November.
Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

‘Prenup of business law’: Reasonable expectations in shareholder disputes
The scenario: You’re a 60 per cent shareholder. Your business partner holds the other 40 per cent. And you’ve just found a third party who wants to buy you out.
Founded in 1991, Richard’s Sweeping provides street sweeping and road flushing as well as dump truck service in Ottawa, Cornwall, Belleville and other eastern Ontario communities.
With 700-plus employees and customers in more than 100 locations in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario and Quebec, Urban Life Solutions is one of the country’s largest outdoor maintenance companies.
CEO Steve Wheatcroft said the new deal helps further his firm’s strategy of growing through acquisitions.
“As we grow, it is key that we find quality partners like Richard’s Sweeping to continue to build our brand and service offering,” he said in a statement.
