The Shaw Centre will be known as Rogers Centre Ottawa as of today, following an announcement from the Ottawa Convention Centre of a 10-year naming rights agreement with Rogers for the downtown venue.

“We are excited to announce this incredible partnership with Rogers,” said Jim Armour, chair of the board for the Ottawa Convention Centre. “The renaming to Rogers Centre Ottawa marks a new chapter for our convention centre, one that will provide innovation and the delivery of exceptional events.”

The Rogers brand is now visible on Rogers Centre Ottawa’s website and digital assets. Internal and external signage will be updated over the coming months, it was announced in a news release.

Last year, Rogers Communications closed a $26-billion deal to purchase Shaw Communications, a transaction which also saw Shaw’s Freedom Mobile spun off in a sale to Quebecor.

“We’re thrilled to partner with an Ottawa institution and iconic part of the city skyline,” said Terrie Tweddle, chief brand and communications officer, Rogers. “Rogers Centre Ottawa will continue to be one of the most successful convention centres in the country, known as a premier gathering place for national and international events.”

According to the release, Rogers Centre Ottawa will continue to use “Canada’s Meeting Place” as its descriptor and will continue to partner with Ottawa Tourism in domestic and international marketing efforts.

“Today’s announcement of Rogers as our new naming rights partner is a significant milestone for the Ottawa Convention Centre,” said Nina Kressler, the facility’s president and CEO. “We are excited about the possibilities this partnership will bring, not only for our clients and guests but for the entire Ottawa community.”

Rogers Centre Ottawa is an internationally renowned convention centre located on the Rideau Canal in downtown Ottawa. Since opening in 2011, the building has hosted thousands of events, generating millions of dollars of economic impact. In 2020, it was named the world’s best convention centre by the International Association of Convention Centres (AIPC).

The Ottawa Convention Centre Corporation is an agency of the provincial government.
