An Ottawa-based passenger bus company has acquired another eastern Ontario transportation firm as it continues to expand its footprint in the region.
Roxborough Bus Lines announced this week it has finalized a deal to buy 417 Bus Line Ltd., a family-owned business based in Casselman, about 55 kilometres southeast of Ottawa. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
“This strategic acquisition will bring added capabilities to our school bus division as well as add motor coaches to our product offering, enabling our customers more options across our charter transportation services,” Roxborough Bus Lines president Nick McRae said in a statement.

‘New chapter’
Founded in 1958 as Laplante Bus Lines, 417 Bus Line adopted its current name in 1974. The company has about 220 employees who maintain and operate a fleet of 230 vehicles that includes school buses and motor coaches.
“Today marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for 417 Bus Line Ltd., one where we will be able to accelerate our mission and help more clients than ever with outstanding service,” president Yvon Laplante said in a statement.
It’s the latest M&A transaction for Roxborough, which has acquired multiple companies since it was founded in 1959. The firm now has more than 820 employees at facilities in Avonmore, Alexandria, Casselman, Clarence Creek, Greely and Madoc and operates nearly 900 buses and vans.
