RioCan is eyeing major changes to another mall in Ottawa, this time targeting Lincoln Fields Shopping Centre for demolition.
In documents filed with the city last week, RioCan REIT says it’s looking for approval to demolish the existing mall building at Lincoln Fields to make room for a new two-storey retail complex and a single-storey grocery store.
The planning documents refer to this proposal as “a preliminary phase to a much more comprehensive redevelopment” of the 6.5-hectare site between Richmond Road and Carling Avenue. RioCan also notes that Lincoln Fields will garner more attention in the coming years with plans for the second phase of the city’s light-rail transit plan calling for a station in the area.

Last week also saw RioCan present its plans for another Ottawa shopping centre to the public. The developer has plans to build five mixed-use towers of up to 36 storeys on the current site of the Westgate Shopping Centre.
Elsewhere in Ottawa, RioCan is proposing a nine-storey, mixed-use building on the site of the Elmvale Acres Shopping Centre and is partnering with Killam REIT on a redevelopment near Gloucester’s Blair LRT station, which would eventually see 840 residential units across multiple buildings.
