An adrenaline-packed weekend featuring rally cars whipping around paved and dirt roads – and flying through the air – drew more than 12,000 spectators to the Canada Aviation and Space Museum, organizers say.

The Red Bull Global Rallycross brought its championship event to Canada for the first time on June 17 and 18 in conjunction with the Ottawa 2017 Bureau, which is organizing a series of events surrounding Canada’s 150th anniversary.

“This has been one of the most well-attended inaugural events in the series’ history, and has exceeded all expectations for a first visit to Canada,” Ottawa 2017 organizers said in a statement. “With such a strong fan response, Ottawa seems to be a perfect fit for future stops on the series schedule.”

The organization said it’s “extremely pleased” with the attendance, ‎tourism impact, external market broadcasts and potential for future sustainability at both the rallycross event as well as March’s Red Bull Crashed Ice, held on the Rideau Canal locks next to the Chateau Laurier.
