The Ontario Municipal Board on Tuesday dismissed an appeal of the city’s decision to allow Windmill Developments to build shops, condos, parks and a hotel on land surrounding the Chaudiere Falls.
The move clears the way for Windmill’s Zibi project on Albert and Chaudiere Islands. Work has already begun on the Gatineau side and condos planned for the Ottawa side went on sale earlier this month.
“We’re greatly encouraged that the Ontario Municipal Board recognizes that the city and Windmill have ‘consulted and engaged with the public and the First Nations and that aboriginal history and culture will be respected and incorporated into the proposed development plans'”, Windmill chair Jeff Westeinde said in a statement.

Renowned architect Douglas Cardinal and five others filed the appeal against the proposed 37-acre, $1.2-billion development last December.
