Best laid plans

The city’s planning committee will meet for the first time in 2019 on Thursday to discuss new zoning bylaws for areas of Westboro, Barrhaven, Navan Road and Kanata.

One proposal sure to generate some discussion between councillors is the application for a new Thai embassy building at 180 Island Park Dr. Though city staff have recommended committee approve the application for a two-storey building zoned for embassy use, Kitchissippi councillor Jeff Leiper has come down against the proposal, which has also attracted more than 50 comments from concerned residents. Coun. Leiper has said in planning documents that the rezoning of the site from residential to office use is “absurd.”
