The National Capital Commission announced Wednesday it has received five proposals to develop Lebreton Flats.
“We are encouraged that our invitation elicited such strong interest,” NCC CEO Mark Kristmanson said in a statement.
In late September, the NCC announced it would accept proposals for the development of up to 21.6 hectares of land south of the Canadian War Museum. It invited applicants to “imagine a world-class destination, a place of inspiration that would demonstrate design excellence and innovation, and be an attractive place for all Canadians, as well as residents of the Capital.”

The five-member selection committee will include three NCC executives as well as A.J. Diamond of Diamond Schmitt Architects and professional planner and land economist Mark Conway of N. Barry Lyon Consultants.
In March, two applicants will continue to the second phase of the process, the request for proposals.
While the NCC did not release the names of the five applicants, Senators Sports and Entertainment did announce on Dec. 23 it would be submitting a proposal that would see the land used in part to build a new arena to house the NHL’s Ottawa Senators.
