An Ottawa builder is proposing to construct a mixed-use development in the north end of Vanier that would include more than 250 housing units.
Minto says the U-shaped building on its property at 78, 84, 86 and 88 Beechwood Avenue and 69, 73, 77, 81, 85, 89 and 93 Barrette Street would feature 251 residential suites and about 6,000 square feet of retail space fronting on Beechwood Avenue. The commercial space would be divided into four separate retail units.
The section of the building facing Beechwood would be nine storeys high, while the side facing Barrette Street would rise six storeys, with a connecting wing forming a stepped transition between the two.

Minto is requesting relief from current setback requirements and wants a zoning amendment to raise height limits on the property from the current 20 metres to 29.6 metres.
The north Vanier neighbourhood is in the midst of a wave of gentrification. Other high-profile recent projects in the area include the mixed-use St. Charles Market development just east of Minto’s proposed building on Beechwood Avenue.
