An Ottawa construction company has pled guilty to failing to protect the safety of a worker at a worksite on the campus of Carleton University.
McDonald Brothers Construction Inc. was penalized earlier this week after one of its workers was struck by a backhoe after exiting a portable toilet during work at Carleton back in May 2017. The Ontario Ministry of Labour states that the toilet was placed at an angle that prevented the backhoe operator and worker in question from seeing each other.
McDonald Brothers Construction pled guilty to charges and will pay $70,000 in damages. The company will also pay a 25 per cent surcharge on the fine towards a special provincial government fund that supports victims of crime.
