Kid-proof lighting: The next step for schools and daycares

Whenever kids are involved, there’s always the potential for things to get messy. Sometimes they break stuff – it’s just part of growing up.

Light fixtures are fragile and, unfortunately, sometimes kids break them. Cracked lenses and broken glass are unsightly. When light fixtures get damaged, you either have to live with the “new” look or replace the broken parts, which can be time-consuming and costly.

Fortunately, there is an easy and cost-effective way to prevent this from happening. Ottawa’s Illumisoft Lighting has developed a solution: An LED retrofit kit that can withstand virtually anything kids can throw at it.

Take a look at the video:

The patented design has the lens attached on each side, so there are no tear or break points. Its unique optical film is difficult to scratch and effortless to clean. As you can see in the video, the fixture can flex, but will not break. It’s a stark contrast with traditional LED fixtures, which are made from thin sheet metal and brittle plastic. Oftentimes with older lights, the plastic can crack or the sheet metal can become dented, potentially making any impact permanent.

What makes Illumisoft Lighting’s fixtures different is the film. It isn’t just durable, it softly diffuses light, leading to outstanding light quality. Studies have shown that light quality is an important contributor to productivity and learning. Lower quality, flickering light from fluorescent tubes can be a distraction and prevent students from being able to focus on their work. By softly diffusing light across the fixture you get a low-glare light source that provides a healthier environment for work, study or play.

The vandal-resistant LED retrofit kit fits into recessed fixtures housed in drop ceilings, most commonly found in schools, hospitals and office buildings. The installation is so simple, a kid could do it! But don’t let a kid do it. All installations should be done by a certified electrician (who will be thrilled you chose Illumisoft!).

With growing concerns about the future of our planet, there has never been a better time to retrofit. Making the switch can lead to up to 80 per cent in energy savings, reducing your environmental footprint and helping make the world a better place for future generations. And, retrofitting leads to savings on your monthly hydro bill.

No other LED retrofit kit combines durability, light quality and efficiency into one complete package.
