Canada Day may have been the country’s biggest birthday party ever, don’t think that July 1 is the end of celebrating in Ottawa!
Au contraire – the action continues throughout the year. There is still lots of time to plan an exciting summer, and to invite your friends and family to participate.
There are of course Ottawa’s fantastic lineup of festivals, unique neighbourhoods, and free Parliament Hill favourites like yoga and the Sound and Light show, Northern Lights. Lots to see and do:
Ottawa Welcomes the World, year-round: More than 75 high commissions, embassies and international partners highlight their culture in a series of free cultural events at the Horticulture Building at Lansdowne.
Sept. 14-17: CityFolk at Lansdowne Park is a festival highlighting Canada’s rich traditions with music, dance, storytelling and crafts.
Sept. 20-24: The Ottawa International Animation Festival, held at various locations around the city, is North America’s largest animation festival that showcases the finest new productions from around the world.
Ongoing, to Sept. 14: The Kontinuum multimedia production takes place in the Lyon light-rail station, part of Ottawa’s future rapid transit network.
Fall: Accompanied by a rich soundscape, the Magnificence of Chaudière Falls experience will evoke the culture of Indigenous people and in particular highlight the Algonquin heritage of the region.
Sept. 14: Opening of DIEF: Portrait of a Prime Minister exhibition at the Diefenbunker, Canada’s Cold War Museum. It’s a dramatic and dynamic journey through the life and times of one of Canada’s most progressive leaders – John Diefenbaker.
Oct. 19-24: The fall edition of the Ottawa International Writers Festival is a celebration of the finest new and established writing from across Canada and around the world.
Oct. 20: Opening of the Canadian Biennial 2017 exhibition at the National Gallery of Canada. This is a comprehensive selection of works acquired by the Gallery’s departments of Contemporary Art, Indigenous Art and Photography.
