One of Mealshare’s founding supporters in the Ottawa region, Hydro Ottawa, is helping to turn dining out into helping out.

Mealshare is a charity that currently operates in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Halifax and Edmonton, providing meals to youth in need. Having launched in Ottawa this June, Hydro Ottawa is proud to support such a great cause as Mealshare is working alongside Operation Come Home to provide meals to homeless and at-risk youth.

“Giving back to the community is an important part of Hydro Ottawa’s culture,” said Bryce Conrad, President and CEO of Hydro Ottawa. “We are excited to be one of Mealshare’s founding supporters in the Ottawa area, and believe strongly in the impact this program will have for the youth in need within our community.”

Giving to this great cause is both easy and delicious thanks to Mealshare’s innovative donation arrangement. Mealshare works by partnering with local restaurants that display the Mealshare logo next to select menu items. For every Mealshare item sold, Mealshare provides one meal to a youth in need.

Since 2013, Mealshare has provided more than 700,000 meals. Thanks to the support of Hydro Ottawa and various other businesses in the community, this number will continue to grow.

For Operation Come Home’s Executive Director Elspeth McKay, the support from local companies such as Hydro Ottawa has her confident in the success of the Mealshare program. “Ottawa is a very giving city, and we’re excited to see how many youth in need will benefit through the initiative.”

With more than one million youth not having access to adequate food, and nearly 8 million Canadians dining out every day, Mealshare is making it simpler than ever to give back to your community.
