Help forge Ottawa’s future

If there is one lesson to be garnered from the last two years – and there are many – it is that we are all connected. We are living a real-time experiment of what our economy means for our health and vice versa. How business success drives community prosperity and vice versa. And how employee well being equals bottom line results and vice versa.

We also learned what can be done when we work together. Programs and policies were created and modified in record time with unprecedented consultation. We prioritized progress over perfection to support our businesses and communities with a sense of urgency. Now it is time to approach our recovery with the same urgency and radical collaboration.

Everyone has a part to play in our economic ecosystem. Businesses have proven themselves to be resilient and resourceful. The innovation of the private sector can be leveraged to address our biggest challenges. The role of our government is to create a system in which business can thrive to cultivate an affordable, inclusive, and sustainable community for all.

CHOOSING OUR LEADERS

Our democratic process is a privilege. Each one of us has a duty to participate and to encourage others to do so. Policy matters. It can create thriving communities and countries. And if we take it for granted, it can do the opposite. We have a unique opportunity this fall to shape the municipal government. The one closest to our every day lives.

Join the conversation about what is important for our city to reach its full potential. Learn about the candidates and assess their leadership qualities. Ask about how they intend to work together with others to achieve a common vision for collective growth and well-being. We are setting the stage for what matters most to our businesses, our employees, our quality of life.

To advance a pro growth agenda, the Ottawa Board of Trade will be launching an initiative called #BuildUpOttawa leading up to the election on October 24, 2022. We are currently surveying our business community to ascertain their priorities. Please consider participating in this 5-minute online survey here: SURVEY.

LEVERAGING OPPORTUNITIES

The Ottawa Board of Trade only exists to advocate on behalf of the business community and work with local partners to achieve economic growth for all. During the pandemic, our staff and volunteer team worked tirelessly to support businesses and their employees. Today, we are committed to work at the same level for our collective future.
