A long-running Gatineau company specializing in post-disaster restoration services has been acquired by a Mississauga-based firm with national expansion plans.
JPL Disaster Recovery, which helps building owners bounce back following a flood, fire or other destructive force, announced Monday it has been acquired by FirstOnSite Restoration in a deal set to close at the end of the month. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
JPL, founded in 1966, currently has 69 employees, all of whom will remain on through the transition. JPL owner Earl Laforest will stay on after the deal as regional vice-president of operations and acquisitions in the newly combined company.

On the other side of the deal, FirstOnSite has some 1,500 employees. The recovery firm was founded in 2007 and a decade later merged with Interstate Restoration, which focuses on disaster restoration for commercial enterprises in the United States. This past May, FirstOnSite was itself acquired by FirstService Corp.
The JPL acquisition represents the firm’s latest expansion in the National Capital Region and in Quebec, where FirstOnSite recently opened branches in Ottawa, Quebec City and Ste-Agathe. Alongside a flagship office in Montreal, the deal to buy JPL positions the company as one of the largest recovery service providers in the region.
