Organizer: James Noun

Stittsville’s One Zero Six Salon hosted its 4th annual Beyond the Cut fundraiser this Sunday, led by co-owner James Noun to support men’s mental health at The Royal Ottawa. What began as a simple idea — donating proceeds from November haircuts — has grown into a powerful community movement. As a first-generation Cambodian Canadian, James understands both the stigma around men speaking about mental health and the cultural expectations common in many immigrant families.

Now raising his young son Lennox with his wife and business partners Saly Mak, James is determined to lead by example and show men from all backgrounds that it’s not only acceptable but brave to talk openly about mental health.

Barbers from shops across Ottawa came together to stand with him, cutting hair side by side in a show of unity, brotherhood, and community care.

All proceeds will support The Royal’s mental health programs, with donations still open here: theRoyal.crowdchange.ca/127755
