Gavin Miranda, Regional Tax Leader, MNP

Gavin is MNP’s Regional Tax Leader in the Eastern Ontario Region. Gavin has more than two decades of experience helping clients with their tax planning and compliance needs, developing innovative solutions to their tax challenges and helping them optimize their tax position.

Gavin works closely with clients in a variety of industries, including technology, real estate and construction, health care and manufacturing.

He has extensive experience in estate planning, wills, mergers and acquisitions – including employee buyouts – and employee stock option plans. He is also experienced in helping his clients expand into international markets, while ensuring their tax structure is optimized from start-up to mature operations. Focusing on understanding his client’s needs ensures Gavin delivers the highest quality of services that exceed his clients’ expectations.

Gavin is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), qualifying as a Chartered Accountant (CA) in 2001. He graduated from the University of Waterloo with a Bachelor of Arts (BA Honours) in 1998 and a Master of Accounting (MAcc) in taxation in 1999.

Sueling Ching, President and CEO, Ottawa Board of Trade

Sueling Ching is the President and CEO of the Ottawa Board of Trade. She is a community builder dedicated to innovating and advocating for business. Her connection to the Ottawa business community began in 2016 as she assumed the role of CEO at the West Ottawa Board of Trade, where she played a critical role in the consolidation of three local chambers of commerce to create a unified, influential voice for businesses in Ottawa.

Sueling has spent over twenty years working in a variety of business, leadership, and community development roles, including as the CEO of the YMCA of Brockville and Area, and as CEO of the Brockville and District Chamber of Commerce. She currently serves as a member of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.

A strong community advocate, Sueling has been involved in many volunteer and charitable causes including 100 Women Who Care, Make-A-Wish, Rotary International and The Royal Ottawa Foundation. More recently, she has pursued her interest in entrepreneurship by launching a consulting firm focusing on women’s leadership, community development, and personal wellness.

Stephen Tapp, Chief Economist, Canadian Chamber of Commerce

Stephen Tapp is the Chief Economist at the Canadian Chamber of Commerce. In this role, he is a key member of the Chamber’s executive leadership team, responsible for the operations of the Business Data Lab as well as economic analysis and research. His focus is on developing the Chamber’s data and analytics capabilities to provide real-time, forward-looking insights for Canadian businesses of all sizes, in all sectors and regions of the country.

Stephen brings over 20 years of diverse experiences at many of Canada’s top economic organizations including at: Export Development Canada as the Deputy Chief Economist, the Bank of Canada, Parliamentary Budget Office, Finance Canada, two think tanks as well as academia.

He is a recognized thought leader on economic issues in Canada. Stephen’s research was awarded the Purvis prize for Canadian economic policy and has been published in academic journals, such as the Canadian Journal of Economics and Canadian Public Policy. He has a Ph.D. and M.A. in Economics from Queen’s University and an Honors B.A from Western. During his undergrad, he studied in the Netherlands and was the owner-operator of a student painting company.

Huw Williams, President, Impact Public Affairs

Huw Williams is the President of Impact Public Affairs and specializes in government and media relations. With extensive experience in the print and broadcast media, he has appeared frequently as a corporate spokesperson on CBC and CTV national news. Mr. Williams’ government experience is diverse, having served as Acting Chief of Staff to the Deputy Prime Minister of Canada; as a Senior Special Assistant to the Minister of Constitutional Affairs; and as a Legislative Assistant to the Speaker of the Alberta Legislative Assembly.

He also served as an intern to a United States Congressman from the Sixth District of Indiana. Mr. Williams authored “A Government Relations Guide For Directors of Non-Profit Organizations” published by the Canadian Society of Association Executives (CSAE). He also served on the board of directors for the Government Relations Institute of Canada (GRIC).

In 2010, Williams was named worldwide Public Affairs Professional of the Year finalist by PRNews Magazine. Williams’ other accolades include the CSAE Griner Award for outstanding “Business Excellence”, one of The Hill Times’ Top 100 lobbyists in Canada, and the Ottawa Business Journal’s “Top Forty under 40 Award” for professional success and community involvement.

Mr. Williams holds a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Ottawa and a Bachelor of Arts (Political Science) from the University of Calgary. He has also completed studies at the Université de Tours in France and is bilingual.

The Post Budget Breakfast is held annually following the tabling of the Federal Budget. This breakfast presents an opportunity for attendees to hear commentary on the latest budget from a variety of pundits both in the political and private sector.
