Construction permits jump 13% in May

Construction intentions took another year-over-year leap in May as the value of permits issued hit a five-year high for the month, according to municipal records.

Permits for May 2013 were valued at $224.63 million. That’s up from $198.81 million the same month a year earlier.

The number of permits issued also went up to 967 this year, compared to 845 in 2012.

The most valuable permits were for renovations at the University of Ottawa, a set of apartments close to the airport and additions to an elementary school in Lowertown.
